About

Standing on some snow at Timber Gap in Sequoia National ParkSometime around maybe winter of 2004, my friends and I had graduated college and spread out across the country. In planning a get together with Tom, we decided to take advantage of his new location in California. We both developed an itch to go backpacking and do some real cross country in the wilderness. We bought and borrowed our gear and that fall had an adventure in Yosemite high country we won’t forget. After that, we were both hooked. We got more friends to go along the next year to Sequoia National Park and since then we have been taking backpacking trips once a year. It makes for a great way to get together with friends and have some adventure. I hope to do it for a long time to come.

HikingMike.com is a result of several things: wanting to have a place for our trips to be on display, a place to share experiences and helpful information, and a place to talk about hiking and backpacking and gear and other interesting things! I realize that most people probably won’t be interested in my trips but as a visitor I hope you find something that interests you as well, perhaps the Backpack Weights Calculator Spreadsheet, or a blog post. Please note that many of the photos here were taken by my friends.
